The Opportunity:

As Manager, Grants Management, you’ll use your exceptional writing skills to assist in procuring funding from individual, corporate, foundation, government and other donors, including USAID, FCDO, and/or the World Bank.

Together with two other internal writers and a pool of freelancers, you’ll craft compelling proposals and reports for 6- and 7-figure gifts, including for bilateral and multilateral donors. You’ll also ensure that objectives and workflows are communicated to global teams while maintaining high standards for clear and accurate submissions.

To succeed in this role, you will have experience developing complex proposals and applications for global corporations and foundations, as well as bilateral and multilateral donors such as USAID, FCDO, and/or the World Bank.

You’ll also need strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills, especially among colleagues from different countries and cultures; and be able to use Salesforce and digital productivity tools.

In your first three to six months, you’ll:

  • Lead at least one proposal for a bilateral/multilateral funding opportunity
  • Inform the process for project design/proposal development for complex projects
  • Develop key content pieces for our standard text bank, especially technical language, and become a subject matter expert and internal resource

This is a full-time, two-year fixed term contract, and will report to the Director of Grants Management.

What You’ll Do:

  • As lead proposal writer, manage the development of complex, high-value proposals and applications for international corporate, foundation, and bilateral/multilateral funders, as well as some high-net-worth individuals.
  • Coordinate inputs with global colleagues and subject matter experts, gather and prepare all submission materials, and ensure deadlines are met by developing and adhering to proposal calendars.
  • Create and initiate system improvements and operational enhancements for developing proposals and handing over grants to program implementation, along with reporting and capturing data.
  • Advise relationship managers on pitching strategic funding opportunities and/or increasing the competitiveness of proposals.
  • Conduct relevant research and respond to information requests from donors and/or partner organizations.
  • Review and analyze requests for proposals for strategic fit and to determine eligibility and submission requirements.
  • Partner with global office and in-country staff to gather data, stories, and content used to write, edit, and submit required reports.
  • Streamline processes for gathering program information, indicator data, press, images, stories, and financial budgets and reports.
  • Develop and distribute effective grant writing and management tools and practices to colleagues through internal communication channels and regular training.
  • Catalogue and update our standard proposal and report content.
  • Supervise one to three freelancers, as needed.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum of 5 years of grant and proposal writing experience in international development, NGOs, or organizations such as USAID, FCDO, and/or the World Bank.
  • Demonstrated success securing 6- and 7-figure grants from individuals, corporations, foundations and bilateral/multilateral funders.
  • Experience developing complex proposals and applications for global corporations and foundations, as well as for prizes and bilateral or multilateral donors, such as USAID, FCDO, and/or the World Bank.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects and priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Persuasive and compelling writing skills in English.
  • Adept at using MS Excel, MS Word, Salesforce or other CRM database systems, and other digital productivity tools.
  • Ability to work with colleagues in other countries and a strong intercultural competency.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Salary range: US $84,000 - $105,000
