Job Description: 

The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) seeks a Grants Manager to provide oversight for AHCMC’s grant making program. The Grants Manager is responsible for creating an environment wherein applicants and grantees perceive AHCMC as being both a resource and a leader for the arts and humanities sector. The ideal candidate has superb customer service skills, is organized, detail-oriented, data-driven, passionate about financial management, philanthropy, and excited by new technology. The Grants Manager will work collaboratively with both the Senior Grants Manager and the Grants Coordinator. The Grants Manager will report to the Senior Grants Manager. This is a fulltime position. Some evening and weekend work will be required.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Implement the grant process:

  • Provide applicant and grantee consultations for the submittal of grant proposals
  • Facilitate grant preparation workshops and webinars 
  • Update grant guidelines and suggest alterations 
  • Update online grant applications and suggest alterations 
  • Review applications to determine eligibility 
  • Provide support for the Senior Grants Manager during public panels
  • Produce and disseminate grant award agreements   
  • Review grantee reports and monitor grantee accountability 
  • Maintain up-to-date grants program data for reporting  
  • Maintain and develop relationships with grantees, including attendance at grantee events 
  • Work in conjunction with the Grants Coordinator to maintain the Grants Department online presence on AHCMC’s website,


Finance and Budgeting:

  • Manage grant dispersal budget, including tracking grantee payments, and county invoices
  • Collaborate with the Senior Grants Manager to prepare the annual county budget request


Support activities of Grants Committee and grant-related actions of AHCMC’s Board including:

  • Provide support for Senior Grants Manager during Board and Grants Committee meetings, as appropriate  


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Acute attention to detail 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a clear understanding of Word, Mail Merge, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook functionalities
  • Excitement about learning to use new technology
  • Strong planning skills 
  • Exemplary interpersonal and customer service skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey critical, time-sensitive information internally and externally
  • Superior editing skills 
  • Experience managing multiple projects of varying timelines simultaneously 
  • An ability to think through projects from start to finish, and address challenges in a collaborative and productive manner
  • An strong interest in applicant and grantee relationship building
  • Passionate about the arts and humanities 
  • A strong desire to promote racial and ethnic equity in cultural philanthropy, increasing support for marginalized communities, Asian, Latino/a, African, Arab, and Native American (ALAANA) artists, scholars, arts and humanities organizations
  • Understands the importance of working in an open, collaborative, multicultural, high-integrity office

Competitive Skills:

  • Proven affinity for mathematics, accounting, quantitative data analysis and reporting
  • 3-5 years of experience in grant making or related field
  • The completion of coursework in a related field: the arts, humanities, arts administration, non-profit administration, economics, business 
  • Knowledge of the arts and humanities in Montgomery County and/or the DC metropolitan region 
  • Knowledge of FluidReview, or other online grant application portals


Compensation: Salary range $65,000 - $70,000. Exciting benefits package includes flex time, paid vacation, sick leave, health insurance, 403(b) plan, and a transportation allowance. No relocation allowance.
