THE FOUNDATION

The DC Bar Foundation (DCBF), a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1977, funds, supports, and improves legal representation of people living in poverty and in vulnerable situations, or who are otherwise under served in the District of Columbia. We are committed to the vision that residents of the District have equal access to justice, regardless of income. We provide grants, training, and technical assistance to DC legal aid organizations and award loans to DC poverty lawyers to help with their educational debt. As a part of our investment in justice, DCBF is implementing a robust strategic plan that will include (1) funding with intention, (2) engaging with our stakeholders, (3) identify unmet needs, (4) demonstrate impact, and (5) infuse with racial justice and equity.

THE POSITION

DCBF is seeking a Grants Manager to play the critical role of ensuring effective operations and alignment with Grants Management best practices and play a key role in implementing DCBF’s robust strategic plan. This individual will be responsible for contract management, grantmaking, and operational management. In addition, the Grants Manager will collaborate with Programs Officers and the Programs Manager to execute the full agreement lifecycle.

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Programs Support

  • Maintain team accountability and coordinate programs activities to ensure adherence to implementation plans, deadlines, and grant lifecycle
  • Utilize remote scanning software to process daily check deposits
  • Assist with training and informational sessions for prospective applicants and grantees
  • Review, prepare, and provide reports to leadership, program staff, and emerging inquirers
  • Assist the Programs Manager with grantee site visits as well as programmatic and financial site visits

Grantmaking

  • Manage all components of the grantmaking process
  • Frequently provide technical assistance to current and prospective grantees
  • Update and maintain relevant forms, templates, and dashboards
  • Review completed application forms and monitor grantee reports
  • Solicit information from grantees and staff to prepare newsletter articles and publicize information
  • Ensure project requirements, policies, and procedures are followed by grantees and internal staff
  • Work closely with programs staff to ensure grant documentation complies with IRS regulations and Foundation requirements
  • Train staff on the grants management process, including data entry consistency and workflows
  • Serve as internal point of contact and system owner for the grants management database

Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP)

  • Manage LRAP through all phases of the process
  • Review applications, plan and conduct information sessions, and assist with issues as they arise
  • Make recommendations regarding LRAP awards, communicate award amounts, and send denial letters
  • Generate loan documents and meet with participants to explain and execute loan documents
  • Submit invoices for award payments, manage quarterly certification, recommend forgiveness for eligible participants, and manage repayments of LRAP awards

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of experience handling responsibilities comparable to those outlined above
  • Strong knowledge of administrative practices, with excellent formatting skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage timelines, and adhere to deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience maintaining records and managing grants in databases
  • Comfortable developing and configuring website materials
