Job Description: 

The Shakespeare Theatre Company, a non-profit organization, is seeking a Foundation and Government Relations Officer to join our Development Department. Reporting to our Senior Director of Development, this position has the primary responsibility for generating all foundation and government annual and capital campaign fundraising proposals and reports, with duties including prospect research, development and submission of proposals, letters of inquiry and reports, and funder stewardship. This position works collaboratively with the rest of the Development department and other departments across the company to meet fundraising goals, and participates in Development cultivation and fundraising events throughout the season. With the Director of Corporate Giving, this position supervises the Grant Writing Coordinator.


The ideal candidate will maximize the philanthropic potential of Shakespeare Theatre Company and its new Artistic Director, in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, working to build a sustainable funding stream for the organization and support for new initiatives. A Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Management, Theatre, Communications, English/Creative Writing, Journalism or equivalent professional experience is required, as well as an additional 1 to 3 years’ experience in grant writing. They should also possess excellent writing, editing, proofreading  and communication skills, as well as the ability to articulate a compelling case for STC’s mission, productions, and programs.
