Events Manager

Full-Time Position

Position Summary
The Events Manager is responsible for planning and managing ACT’s development and programmatic events that strengthen relationships with donors, nonprofit partners, and key stakeholders.  Events include intimate 15-20-person donor cultivation gatherings, ACT’s 20th Anniversary celebration, a bi-annual 300-person conference, and capacity building trainings for nonprofit partners. Events may feature online, in-person and hybrid formats. The Events Manager works closely with all staff members and reports to the Chief Development Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Partner with the Chief Development Officer, Chief Program Officer, and other staff to craft visions, establish goals and objectives, and identify target audiences for events.
  2. Plan and manage multiple events simultaneously including researching and securing venues, planning, and managing ACT’s events calendar, negotiating quotes and agreements with vendors (in-kind and paid), etc.
  3. Develop and manage event budgets.
  4. Partner with the Communications Manager on event marketing to ensure that events meet attendance and revenue goals.
  5. Partner with the Chief Development Officer and the Chief Program Officer to manage event planning committees or host committees. 
  6. Partner with the Chief Development Officer to identify sponsorship packages and ensure ACT effectively delivers event sponsorship benefits including signage, recognition, and other commitments.
  7. Work with the ACT team to plan and develop event “run of shows” or program outlines including timing, talking points, etc.
  8. Manage event logistics including event registration, onsite and online operations, and post-event wrap-up.  Supervise vendors, volunteers, and staff during events. 
  9. Utilize ACT’s CRM (Foundant’s CSuite) to collect and track attendee activity and engagement.
  10. Implement post-event surveys and post-event analysis. 
  11. Maintain information on event resources, including venues, caterers, AV providers and other vendors.
  12. Maintain knowledge about best practices in events management and hospitality.   


Detailed oriented and skilled at project planning, management, and budgeting.  Effective collaborator who can engage multiple partners to achieve event outcomes. Comfortable meeting with critical stakeholders, including donors, corporate sponsors, board members, etc. Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service and experiences to ACT donors, fund holders, nonprofit partners, and other stakeholders.  Strong problem-solver and comfortable with adapting and adjusting plans as needed.  Familiarity with fundraising and corporate sponsorship best practices. Proficiency with EXCEL, Power Point, Zoom, and project management tools are important. 


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and photocopiers and the Events Manager will be provided with the necessary tools to accomplish their job.  Remote work is possible and in-office workstations are available when needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, this position often requires longer hours in alignment with the event schedule including weekday evenings or weekends.


This position requires some travel, but mostly maintains a local Alexandria presence.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in events management, marketing, business administration or related field.
  2. Four (4) years of related event management experience, including experience with a range of events.
  3. Understanding of the nonprofit sector and fundraising principles. 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Highly developed interpersonal skills. Ability to meet people with ease.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  3. Strong organizational skills, well disciplined, able to work under pressure of many priorities and meet deadlines.
  4. Knowledge of project management tools (Asana preferred).

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000.
