Position Description

The Director of Human Resources/Talent is the first full-time HR position in GEO’s 20-year history and will have lead responsibilities for designing and implementing GEO’s talent system, as well as serving as GEO’s employee relations lead, managing the contract with GEO’s external consultant for HR administration, and leading regular and emergent HR-related projects such as compensation studies and equity analyses. The Director of HR/Talent reports to and will partner with the VP of Racial Equity/Partnerships/Talent to develop organization-wide systems that will support GEO’s commitment to an equitable organizational culture in which all can thrive.

The Director of HR/Talent is both a relationship and capacity builder with staff and a strategic advisor to GEO’s Senior Team in order to advance GEO’s culture and thereby, GEO’s impact in the philanthropic sector.

If you were working with us, here are some of the things you would have done last week:

  • Facilitated a conversation with the Senior Team about the vision for GEO’s new talent system and how the system responds to the opportunities and challenges emerging from GEO’s recent restructuring
  • Met with a new staff person who was seeking clarification about GEO’s professional development policy and explored the person’s career and personal growth aspirations
  • Reviewed resumes and cover letters to determine which candidates you would then schedule for phone interviews
  • Responded to a staff recommendation to speak with an HR Director at a GEO member organization about their talent system
  • Met via Zoom video with the VP, Racial Equity/Partnerships/Talent for your weekly check-in conversation
  • Partnered with GEO’s Strategy and Learning Manager to analyze staff engagement survey data and determine when and how to share the data and insights with all staff
  • Refined and distributed a survey to gather staff feedback about their experience using GEO’s new performance review system
  • Responded to GEO’s external HR consultant to determine the date when the consultant will lead GEO staff through open enrollment
  • Discussed proposed changes to GEO’s new Harassment policy with the staff subcommittee that coordinated a recent staff training on the policy

Qualifications

  • Seven to 10 years of human resources experience, with HR certification preferred
  • Experience designing, implementing and measuring talent systems
  • An orientation to relationships, collaboration and building the capacity of staff colleagues
  • Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate using multiple methods to people of diverse backgrounds and work styles
  • Experience integrating a racial equity lens to human resource systems and practices
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete human resource related projects with strong attention to detail, timeliness and accuracy
  • Experience developing systems to track and continuously improve organizational culture objectives
  • Understanding of organizational lifecycles and change management methodologies
