WGL is seeking an Community Affairs Specialist with diverse skills to support community engagement and external affairs initiatives. This role reports into the Manager, Stakeholder Engagement and will be based in our Corporate headquarters building (SW, Washington, DC).

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of the Community Affairs strategy in the Washington DC region.

  • Participate in internal planning and scheduling meetings to keep abreast of infrastructure replacement projects schedule and changes.

  • Serves as point of contact during replacement projects and other customer-impacting field work.

  • Supporting the planning and executing targeted external outreach and engagement activities to government officials, community members and organizations.

  • Interfaces with Community Affairs team and external audiences, with an emphasis on community groups and non-profits.

  • This position will assist in helping to execute the appropriate strategies and day-to-day management of the company initiatives in coordination with the manager.

  • Liaison with our corporate social responsibility team on organizing and developing outreach efforts to build support and increase employee engagement.

  • Work independently, keeping the Manager of Communications and Community Relations informed of current projects and activities, as well as any issues that may require managers involvement.

  • Conduct post-project surveys, and track, monitor, respond and drive timely resolution to customer and non-customer issues, concerns and complaints. Conduct follow-up to ensure resolution is satisfactory to customer’s needs.

  • Administrative functions as assigned.

  • May have to support evening and weekend events, 15%.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum four (4) years related community affairs experience and ability to establish rapport, takes initiative and build effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors, and peers.

  • Demonstrated ability to present ideas logically and concisely to diverse internal and external audiences at all organizational levels, both verbally and in writing.

  • Proven ability to write detailed reports, letters and analyze quantitative data.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complaints and issues.

  • Must be able to travel to all locations throughout the service territory, to include but not limited to, Washington Gas corporate offices and community meeting locations.
