The adult education specialist will play an integral role on our education team as we design and refresh BoardSource’s member education offerings and resources in support of our sector leadership initiatives, which are focused on critical issues impacting nonprofits and their board leaders. Reporting to the director of education, this individual will work collaboratively with the education team to develop and implement new educational offerings utilizing a variety of training media, evaluate existing trainings for improvements, and ensure all educational materials are consistent with BoardSource’s approach and brand.
The adult learning specialist must be trained or experienced in instructional design to help BoardSource determine appropriate learning strategies, methods, and media for a variety of existing and new educational content as well as translate our research theory into practice. This individual will work with BoardSource's internal staff and external partners and other subject matter experts to collect lessons learned from the field to enhance BoardSource’s educational materials with new trends and research. S/he will also assist in the development of new material for dissemination via our website, R+S member newsletter, blog posts, member engagement platform, podcasts, or relevant other vehicles. This individual will monitor stakeholder feedback and instructional design trends to identify and implement enhancements to content, media functionality, technology, and supporting training materials. For this reason, the adult learning specialist must stay current with emerging trends in instructional design for a variety of learning modalities.
The ideal candidate will be educated or experienced in adult learning theory, strategies, and methods, ideally applied in a nonprofit environment. Individuals should demonstrate their experience with curriculum design and development and production of online and web-based training modules. Individuals must be highly organized with strong project management skills, a keen attention to detail, and ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative team. Exceptional interpersonal skills are necessary to build relationships with staff and stakeholders; strong writing and editing skills are required to develop and enhance training materials. Candidates must have a passion to make an impact on the nonprofit sector and desire to work on an inclusive, collaborative, fun team!
