Lisa Fager, Executive Director of the Mount Zion-Female Union Band Society Historic Memorial Park will come to speak to the Racial Equity Working Group on a mission to preserve Black cemeteries in Washington D.C.
Lisa Fager, a nationally known thought leader, social activist, and nontraditional preservationist for nearly 20 years, has worked to preserve, protect Black communities and interests by reflecting on the past and using her voice and actions to create meaningful change. Today, Ms. Fager is the first Executive Director, for the nonprofit Mt. Zion - Female Union Band Historic Memorial Park, Inc., responsible for overseeing care, commemoration, and community engagement of Washington DC’s oldest Black cemeteries – Mt Zion and the Female Union Band Society Cemeteries in Georgetown which also served as refuge for freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad.
