A partnership has been formed to address the urgent income needs of community members in our region and support the growing movement for guaranteed income as a policy tool to advance racial justice. The Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, if, A foundation for Radical Possibility, Restaurant Opportunities Center of DC (ROC-DC), the Greater Washington Community Foundation, Amalgamated Bank, and the Amalgamated Foundation have collaborated to launch a guaranteed income pilot for hospitality workers displaced by COVID.

We invite you to join a briefing for individual donors about our guaranteed income pilot on Wednesday, December 1, 10:00 am - 11:00 am EST. Please register here.

About the Donor Briefing

At the briefing, Let’s GO DMV! partners will share the story of how the project originated, provide an overview of the various components of the project, and invite your financial support, in particular for the first year of guaranteed income payments.

Transformative Impact

We care deeply about the workers at the center of this project and want to guarantee opportunities for them specifically. At the same time, the larger, necessary, and transformative change we seek is for government-supported guaranteed income, social safety systems and a philanthropic sector that advance racial justice and work to bolt people out of poverty, not keep them in it.

  • Impact Investing: We will raise and invest $40-50M in impact investments to support the region through initiatives such as BIPOC-owned business and social enterprise, and affordable housing, and use the interest generated on the impact investment to provide guaranteed income for years 2-5 of this pilot.
  • Worker engagement & solidarity economyLet’s GO DMV! centers workers who are already working with ROC-DC on various campaigns and will take part in advocacy for guaranteed income. The workers have dreams to start cooperative enterprises together that tap into their skills, experiences, knowledge, and joy around food and providing them with long-term support will give them space to build together.
  • Local government advocacy & engagementWe will collaborate with other pilots in the region to advocate for government-supported GI and other economic justice initiatives.
