Join the Healthy Communities Working Group for a conversation with LaQuandra S. Nesbitt, MD, MPH, Director of the D.C. Department of Health.

We will have an opportunity to:

  • Hear her perspectives on health challenges and opportunities in the District, including ways in which government and philanthropy could work across program sectors to better address the social and economic determinants of health
  • Share our grantmaking and non-grantmaking work and lessons learned from efforts to strengthen the health safety net and improve health outcomes

Dr. Nesbitt returns to D.C. after serving as the Director of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, where she established the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Leadership Team leading to the successful implementation of the city’s “health in all policies” approach. Prior to that, she held two senior positions with the DC Department of Health: Senior Deputy Director for the Community Health Administration and Senior Deputy Director for the Center for Policy, Planning, and Evaluation. Dr. Nesbit has also held the positions of Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Senior Coordinator for Health Disparities and Policy Research Initiatives in the Office of Policy & Planning at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

We are also delighted that Dr. Nesbitt will be joined by Brenda Donald, D.C. Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services. Prior to being appointed Deputy Mayor, Ms. Donald served as the Director of the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency and has served as vice president of the Center for Effective Family Services and Systems at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, as well as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Human Resources.
