Dear WRAG Members –
As many of you are aware, WRAG's Census 2020 Working Group has been involved in the Funders Committee for Civic Participation’s (FCCP) national efforts to ensure a fair and accurate Census 2020 count and it has raised concerns about the Census Bureau's desire to modify the collection timeframe from October 30th to September 30th.
Ending all counting efforts a month earlier than previously announced includes ending the following activities early: critical door-knocking, collecting responses online, over the phone and by mail. Cutting these efforts short will negatively impact historically undercounted groups who are not likely to fill out a census form on their own. We urge you to join Gary Bass, from the Bauman Foundation, and a major leader in the FCCP’s Census 2020 work, by signing this letter addressed to Secretary Ross and Director Dillingham.
THE DEADLINE TO SIGN THE LETTER is today at Noon. The sign-on letter will be sent to the press at 12:30 pm (ET).
"We have been informed that if our funder sign-on letter is to have an impact, we need to move fast. Cutting the census short and rushing the data processing phase is not yet locked in stone. The court of public opinion can make a difference."
Gary Bass, Bauman Foundation
