Regionalism has been core to WRAG for some time. Manuel Pastor, author of This Could Be the Start of Something Big: How Social Movements for Regional Equity are Reshaping Metropolitan America, brought the urgent need for regional equity to the attention of our community as the keynote speaker at our 2010 Annual Meeting. We went on to endorse the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Region Forward plan and to include in our organizational vision statement the importance of an equitable region. So, we quickly offered our support when Stephen Fuller of the Center for Regional Analysis and Bob Buchanan of Buchanan Partners and head of the 2030 Group recently called for a regional economic summit to address the vitality of the Greater Washington region in the long term.
Bob has acknowledged that until recently he thought that business and government alone could lead change. He now acknowledges that, in our region in particular, the academic community and the nonprofit community (including philanthropy) must be the four legs of a strong foundation for change. Join us to learn more about his vision and the role that philanthropy can play in a cross-sector and cross-jurisdictional effort to ensure our region's long-term economic heath.
