The Greater Washington region has a large lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, but there has been very little local philanthropic focus on this population. There have also been few if any efforts to organize funders interested in LGBTQ issues, funders who identify as LGBTQ, and/or funders who view themselves as allies of the LGBTQ community. Given that The Advocate magazine has listed D.C. as the “Gayest City in America” for 2014 and LGBTQ equality issues are being decided in our own backyard, will local philanthropy join the cause?

Join us on May 14 for a brown bag lunch for interested WRAG members to discuss their work on, or interest in, LGBTQ issues. This brown bag is a first effort to ascertain whether there is interest in developing a series of formal or informal meetings and learning opportunities, and to learn about a new fund that has been created to support LGBTQ health and wellness. Michael Bigley of the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation and Channing Wickham of the Washington AIDS Partnership will serve as discussion leaders.

If you are interested in this gathering but unable to attend, please contact Gretchen Greiner-Lott.
