Essential Skills and Strategies for New Grantmakers (ESS) is a comprehensive educational program that introduces new and up-and-coming grantmakers to the foundation world and philanthropic field. Designed by experts, the two-day program provides foundation staff and trustees of grantmaking and corporate giving programs with the knowledge, insight, skills and tools to be effective in their work.
During this workshop, you will explore key topics such as:
- Being Grounded in Philanthropy
- Legal and Ethical Issues
- Making Sound Funding Decisions
- Communicating Funding Recommendations and Decisions
- Managing the Grant Portfolio
- Maximizing Grant Impact
- Managing Personal & Professional Changes
Sessions are designed to be interactive and discussion-oriented to provide attendees with expertise needed to thrive in philanthropy. Participants will receive a set of materials including a detailed guide for use during the workshop and a CD-rom with additional learning resources. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
