The foundation community has helped advance green building to the point where it is now a legislative mandate in Washington, DC. To continue this success, we must turn our attention to the capacity-building necessary to keep implementation on track. In the District, new public projects, including affordable housing, must meet green criteria. Montgomery County, Maryland, has enacted similar requirements, and green legislative and policy proposals are gaining traction throughout the region. Development professionals and public officials are looking for guidance and training to comply with new, evolving requirements for green building, energy efficiency, stormwater management, and more.
GreenSPACE will help government agencies and the building and development community achieve early successes by providing the practical advice, technical support, hands-on training and networking hub the community needs to make green development mainstream. Based in the nation’s capital, GreenSPACE has the opportunity to serve as a cutting-edge model – locally, regionally, and nationally – for fostering green development.
Market transformation requires coordinated and ongoing policy and capacity-building efforts. GreenSPACE will bring together a broad range of partners and funders to ensure its success. The leadership of the foundation community is vital to prime the pump on this initiative and secure the region’s investment in the tools and knowledge that we need to create a sustainable future. This is why we are inviting you to join us on Monday, June 16, 2008, from 11:00am to 1:30pm at Bank of America, 730 15th Street NW, 10th Floor Board Room and Atrium.
